Where Is the Perfect Beach?
Most people enjoy visiting a beach. There is something
about the color of the sand, the sound of the waves, the sun sparkling
on the water, and the scenic view that is almost universally appealing.
If the beach is developed, there may be typical beach
activities such as unusual food stands, serving seafood or the all American
foot long hot dog with plenty of mustard.
Many beaches have an adjacent amusement park where you
can see the ships far away at sea from the top of the ferris wheel.
Or there can be any number of colorful people to watch.
Most people have their favorite beach. Perhaps your
favorite beach is the one in closest driving distance, or maybe the
one your family always went to for summer vacations.
Maybe you'd like to find a new "favorite"
beach. There are lots of great beaches that are within driving distance
or make for the perfect destination vacation. Many of these beaches
cater to a variety of activities.
Some beaches, like boots, are made for walking. Picture
yourself strolling along a beautiful sandy beach with the soft waves
tickling your bare feet. Joggers may rush by but the true enjoyment
of a walking beach is best appreciated at a leisurely pace.
The best walking beaches slope toward the water for
a good view, are long enough to stretch the legs, and have hard-packed
sand. Crescent Beach in the Florida Keys and Gay Head at Martha's Vineyard
are two of the most popular walking beaches in the country.
What are the criteria for the ideal beach if you are
a party person and getting your feet wet really isn't at all appealing.
Some people go to the beach "to be seen", not to get wet.
For these people, it's more about wearing the designer swimsuit and
glasses than enjoying the scenic view.
Party people also want nightlife near the beach, a swinging
combination of fine restaurants, entertainment, clubs and bars. The
most notable beach in the country is the South Beach section of Miami,
Florida. This beach area has been reborn as a nighttime hot spot in
the last decade.
Sometimes going to the beach isn't about entertainment;
it's about the chance to spend time with the one you love, to stretch
out and relax without a care in the world, and to hold hands as you
watch the sun going down over the horizon. For some people, the idea
of romance conjures up an image of a beautifully sandy beach.
Of course, sometimes beaches can get a little too crowded
for a romantic atmosphere. That's why it's essential to seek out beaches
that are quiet and intimate. Some of the best romantic beaches are:
- Kiawah Island, South Carolina
- Captiva Island, Florida
- Santa Catalina Island, California
Regardless of your reason for going to the beach, you're
sure to find the beach that is the answer to your dreams and destined
to become your favorite beach for years to come.
