Most travelers want to make the best of any vacation to enjoy the place they’re visiting. Going on an Indian vacation would mean you’d be spoiled for choice when it comes to places to visit. Since there are so many places to visit and sights to see to in India, you’ll never lack entertainment and fun.

To make sure that all your friends and fellow travelers will have fun a bit of planning is essential. Planning for your trip in India would also prevent you from wasting any time trying to figure out where you want to go.

It is important to factor the length of time you will be spending in India. If you’re in India for a long vacation, you can explore different regions or the country, since each region in India has unique and amazing experiences to offer. If you’re just here for a short India vacation, then it would be best to check out the most memorable sights first.

India’s Beautiful Beaches and Waterways

Goa is one of the most popular beach destinations in India. It was discovered as a tourist spot during the hippie movement in the 1970s and continues to be even now. There are already well-developed beaches in Goa that you can choose from, depending on your budget and the sort of vacation you plan.

Other great beaches can be found in Karnataka, Kerala and even in Maharashtra. These may be less developed but their beauty can equal or surpass that of Goa’s beaches. The beaches in the Andaman Islands also have great white, sandy shores and sparkling blue waters. There are also forts to visit in the Sindhudurg region of Maharastra.

Aside from beaches, there are also beautiful backwaters where you and your significant other can enjoy romantic boat rides. You can enjoy different many activities and water sports on India’s beaches, including parasailing, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, scuba diving and water skiing.

The Desert Heat Of Rajasthan

The vast Thar Desert or the Great Indian Desert in Rajasthan is where tourists get to see forts, palaces and mansions. This is a great place for heritage and culture tours, and you can explore many old mansions, called havelis, which have been converted into palace hotels that offer luxurious stays to those who wish to sample the desert culture of India.

In the desert, you can also enjoy camel safaris and camel fairs. These have become popular not only with the foreigners but also with the Indian middle and upper class. Camel treks in the Thar desert give travelers an opportunity to experience its unique ecology and climate first-hand.

The forts and cities in the middle of the Thar desert are also ideal for a romantic vacation and offer great shopping for exquisite, traditional items. The Rajasthan region can also be experienced through a hot air balloon flight.

The Ajanta and Ellora caves in Maharastra are rich with paintings and sculpture which created between the 6th and 11th century.

India Holidays: Grand Sights To See On Your Trip To India

By Arun Chitnis

India is a large country with regions and provinces that are unique from each other and full of multi cultural surprises. If you want to experience a rich cultural heritage and unique traditions, an Indian vacation destination is pretty much the getaway you’re looking for.

But don’t be in a hurry to plan your trip to India yet. There are some things you need to consider before you head for India. If you’re a frequent traveler you probably know by now, mostly through your experiences, that going on vacation requires some sort of planning, even more so when you visit a unique country like India.

Going to a country without knowing the what to expect, even under the best set of circumstances, is pretty much like allowing the wind to blow all your vacation money, not to mention your time and efforts, away.

India is undoubtedly a very beautiful country and simply visiting any part of it will expose you to a variety of cultures, festivals, customs and traditions. But with limited resources, you can’t just go hopping from province by province. You need to know and prioritize the best places to visit in order to experience that “Indian” feel.

Places To Visit In India

India has one of the most majestic deserts in the world – the Thar desert in Rajasthan. Among the more popular trekkers’ destinations are the Jaisalmer and Pushkar in Rajasthan.

The harsh environment definitely has its appeal and with desert festivals during the early and last few months of the year, visitors are surely one for a treat. Rajasthan for one has lots more treasures other than its deserts. It is riddled with monuments, forts, scenic lakes and even exotic wildlife sanctuaries.

In fact, Rajasthan is so popular that it has traditionally been considered as the more preferred tourist destinations in all of India. While the title might be contested, the beauty of place, the richness of its culture can’t.

Other destinations include Jaipur city, Samode which famous for the Haveli and Place hotel, and the religious sites of Ajmer and Pushkar. Pushkar is one of the most scared cities of the India, famous for holy lakes as well as ancient temples. In fact it is so sacred that meat, fish, eggs, and alcohol are forbidden within the city limits.

Another quite popular destination is Kashmir. The place came to be known as “Paradise on Earth” thanks to its jaw-dropping natural beauty and picturesque locations that were made popular in many old Bollywood movies.

Among Kashmir’s natural attractions are the snow-capped Himalayan mountain peaks, scenic vistas, rich vegetation and a various adventure spots for the out going and sports enthusiasts. However, mountaineering or trekking is not limited to this locale. Places like Shimla and Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh as well as Kodaikanal, located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, are also popular destinations for trekkers.

Then of course, there’s the all popular tour which usually begins in Delhi, where tourists are treated to literally thousands of shops that sells almost everything one can imagine in India’s buzzing capital. The capital is a treat for both the eyes and the palate with an array of food, especially spicy kinds, to choose from.

Agra is another popular destination because its the location of the world famous Taj Mahal. You might find the area crowded since there are thousands of tourists who visit the mausoleum on a daily basis.

The Taj Mahal has become one of India’s most well-known landmarks and tourists often do not consider their visit to the country complete without managing to get a picture with the Taj in the background.

Having an Indian tour guide is a good idea, especially of you’re a foreigner in India. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the things to do and places to visit and you will most likely end up resting in your hotel room in the middle of the afternoon. For most of us who consider their trip to India their first and last, maximizing their time there is a must.

India Travel: Tips And Precautions For A Safe Trip To India

By Ganapathy Krishnan

So, you want to go to India! India is an amazing country with a diversity that is unmatched anywhere in the world. As you go from the north to the south, you will encounter completely different landscapes from the snowy and chilly north to the tropical paradise in the south.

Languages, accents, local architecture and scenery will change as you go from one state to another. So, here is how you make sure you enjoy your trip to India.

Taj Mahal, India

India is an amazing country

  • Take all your shots. I know it is not fun, but neither is getting typhoid, cholera or hepatitis B. India is still a developing country and the level of hygiene has not caught up with the West, yet.
  • Get a prescription for Malarone, especially if you are traveling in the winter months. This prevents you from getting malaria since mosquitoes are quite prevalent. They thirst for the unsuspecting travelers’ blood.
  • Carry insect repellents like Deep Woods Off with you to ward off pesky flying critters.
  • Always drink bottled water, but make sure you get it from a reputable source. Otherwise, you might be paying for water that was bottled at the local tap.
  • Most airports have prepaid taxis and also cars for hire. You will find cars for hire nicer to ride in but about twice as expensive as prepaid taxis. In Mumbai, air conditioned taxis are called cool cabs.
  • You can now book your tickets on trains and planes online. I book all my tickets before I leave for India. I generally travel by train in 2-tier a/c instead of 3-tier a/c. The difference is that you get more space with 2-tier a/c coaches.
  • It is safe to eat hot foods, but be very wary about cold foods or salads.
  • If you get sick and you need medicine quickly, go to any pharmacy. You can get almost anything without a prescription. Just ask the pharmacist. They are very knowledgeable.
  • India is generally a safe country, but it is not a good idea to wander around alone at night.
  • Exchange your money only at authorized centers. You can get a better exchange with private parties, but this is a very serious offence and might land you in jail where the conditions (I have been told) are not exactly 5-star.
  • Be generous to beggars. I say this only from a good karma perspective. They are generally harmless.

Finally, enjoy India for what it is. Do not expect living conditions like in the western world. My kids (who were born in the US) and I take all these precautions and thoroughly enjoy our trips to India.
